JOY DE ROHAN CHABOT

Joy de Rohan-Chabot, an artist who is passionate about nature and the decorative arts, is
displaying her bronze sculptures for the first time at the Galerie Matignon, using butterflies
and fireflies as the focus of her work.
About twenty recent works combine nature and poetry in a narrative that is inspired by the
fairy tales dear to the artist’s heart. A large mirror framed by twigs and leaves reflects blue
birds; gilded bronze trees provide shelter for insects and butterflies, which turn out to be
“firefly” candles at night; flowers become chairs, trees are transformed into tables; brambles
and wild grass sweep across the translucent glass of the screens like shadow puppets.
Farther away, a large bronze butterfly is perched on a base made of thin grass, while other
huge butterflies rest on a wool carpet; two "jewel benches" made of enameled branches and
improbable flowers sparkle amidst this poetic atmosphere.
As the holiday season approaches, Joy de Rohan Chabot and the Galerie Matignon invite
visitors to embark on a magical journey into the world of the decorative arts.
Joy de Rohan Chabot: a multidisciplinary artist
Joy de Rohan Chabot is an artist of many talents who has gained international recognition.
Her main source of inspiration is nature. Her large vases and her painted glass cups illustrate
the impressions of her walks through the countryside.
A consummate artist, she works with iron, wood and glass.
Joy de Rohan Chabot is now adding unique bronze pieces to her creations. In collaboration
with the Fusion foundry of Auvergne, she creates dreamlike sculptures that she usually
chooses to paint.
The Galerie Matignon
Founded in 1977, the Galerie Matignon exclusively presents the work of the figurative artist
Jansem and that of other contemporary artists and photographers, based on the criteria of
quality and artistic maturity (Lepoureau, Teffo, Camporeale, Agoudjian, Chauveau, Gaspari,
Guichard). It also offers thematic exhibitions of modern and contemporary artists, both
group and individual, recently presenting works by Picasso, Maillol, Gonzalez, Topor,
Æchbacher, Buffet, Lesieur and Marco Del Ré.
With the “Fireflies” exhibition by Joy de Rohan Chabot, the gallery is showcasing the
decorative arts for the first time. The Galerie Matignon is amongst the most successful
international galleries. A mere few steps away from the Champs Elysées, the Grand Palais,
and the Christie’s and Sotheby’s auction houses, the Galerie Matignon is ideally located in
the heart of the most prestigious quarter where all the major art fairs and exhibitions take
place throughout the year.
